Pirelli To Re-Enter Cycling Tyre Market With ‘P Zero Velo’

Automotive and motorcycle giant Pirelli are set to re-enter the cycling tyre market with the launch of ‘Velo Pirelli’ later in the year.

Purely targeting the road market, details are sketchy but the company says the tyres will be know as ‘P Zero Velo’.

The same name as the companies top-selling automotive tyres, ‘names are usually never assigned by coincidence’ say Pirelli.
“In this case, it is no coincidence at all that Pirelli has chosen to identify the new range of tyres with this famous brand: the aim of the company is to target the top segment of the market, the so-called Specialissima bikes.”

The new tyres will feature varying coloured treads across the range – silver for road racing, red for the time trial and blue for the four seasons.

Not new to the cycling field, Pirelli tyres were on many of the bikes of the first edition of Giro d’Italia in 1909.

Heritage & Knowledge

“For our bicycle tyres, we draw on a unique heritage of knowledge, technology and sporting experience”, said Antonella Lauriola, head of Velo Pirelli. “We chose to start from the racing segment, which is the most challenging in technical terms, but also the most consistent with our race-marked history.”

With the release time coinciding with Eurobike 2017, the new line of Pirelli bicycle tyres are expected to be on display there.
