As Ben O’Connor does all he can to defend his Top 3 position at the 2021 Tour de France, we thought it timely to take a look at the bike the 25yo West Australian is riding.

Switching steeds at the start of 2021, the reinvigorated Ag2r-Citroën team pretty well overhauled not just their bike partner but entire equipment supplier list.

The French team chose to go with BMC bikes - the Swiss manufacturer having a long history and strong association with the top level of the sport.

First in the impressive arsenal is the Teammachine SLR 01 - the model O’Connor used to power up the alpine climbs in Stage 9. Second option is the Timemachine Road aero bike for the flatter stages, and Timemachine TT bike for the time trials.

O’Connor’s bike is finished is gleaming white with stylish red and black detail and slick, fully integrated cabling.

It is equipped with Campagnolo’s Super Record EPS 12 speed groupset with hydraulic disc brakes, the latest model Bora WTO and Bora Ultra wheels, Pirelli TLR and tubular P-Zero Race tyres, and a Fi’zi:k saddle.

Team AG2R-Citroen use BMC bikes including the Teammachine SLR 01.

Data and electronics are looked after via a Power2Max power meter and Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM GPS / computer. Kit wise, the team use Rosti, an Italian manufacturer along with European made HJC helmets.

Over to you - your thoughts on Ben O'Connor's performance to date and the BMC Teammachine SLR 01?
