Tempo Overcurve R5: fizik Launch Asymmetric Shoe

Comments Comments
fizik have announced details of a new model in their new Tempo range, the Overcurve R5 road cycling shoe.

The company say the Tempo series has been designed to deliver a timeless look, while retaining a distinct fizik identity and incorporating the company’s form-fitting construction, build quality and attention to detail.

What’s Overcurve?

“This is the asymmetrical quick-fit road cycling shoe to suit every rider – featuring the micro-adjustment of a Boa dial,” say fizik.

“The new Overcurve closure design features a staggered collar wrapping around the ankle, with a distinctly asymmetrical shape, formed to follow the natural misalignment of the two bony protrusions from either side of the ankle. The Tempo Overcurve R5 shoe’s throat curves over the foot from its outer to its inner side.”

Single Boa

Closure is fast and secure via the combination of a micro-adjustable BOA IP1 dial – which can be adjusted on the fly – along with a shorter Velcro strap to fine tune fit of the forefoot area.

“We are pleased to bring the new Tempo Overcurve R5 shoes to market,” said Luca Mathia Bertoncello, fizik’s Brand Director.
“Showcasing the versatile new Tempo shoe construction and R5 outsole provides an ideal platform on which to deliver the all-new Overcurve system.

“A study in ergonomic design, its form follows the natural shape created by the lateral and medial malleoli protrusions on either side of the ankle – the asymmetric shape lends itself to an overlapping curve along and across the rider’s foot. It means a technically superior fit option to rival many others available.”

R5 construction & materials

The Tempo Overcurve R5 combines fizik’s proven designs, materials and construction techniques with the new Overcurve closure design. It features the R5 outsole, made with carbon-reinforced nylon with optimum stiffness for efficient delivery of power through the pedals, and some flex for comfort, while remaining lightweight. Laser cut perforations (not punched or cut, to avoid danger of snags and rips) aid temperature management for all-year-round riding.

Tempo Overcurve R5 is available now worldwide in a range of five colorways – including the unmissable fluro options – and a full range of sizes from all good stockists and www.fizik.com

Shimano may have been late to the game releasing their first 12-speed drivetrain, but after spending some trail-time aboard it, there's no denying that the new XTR is worth the wait.

Focus has approached the E-MTB category in a markedly different way to its rivals by focusing on bike first and battery second. Is it the right approach?

Like them or loathe them, the E-MTB is here to stay and whether you are an elite racer or weekend FROTHER there is a place in everyone’s garage for one of these beasts.
