Mavic Neutral Service at the Tour de France

Max Ruphy has one of the best jobs in cycling – he’s a Mavic neutral service mechanic at the Tour de France, and many other races around the world.

Max is also a mad-keen cyclist and spent a year in Australia where he raced at National Road Series level. In this video Max explains the critical role of the Mavic neutral service team and shows us what’s inside the vehicles & on the back of the motos.

In the thick of the action from start to finish of each stage, just this week Max made headlines around the world as he assisted Cannondale-Drapac ride Rigoberto Uran who had a bent derailleur 20km out from the sprint finish of Stage 9 of the Tour de France.

Leaning out the window of the Mavic vehicle, Max repositioned the bent derailleur and manually put the chain to the biggest gear. Uran went on to win one of the most thrilling finishes of this year’s Tour.

Bicycling Australia would like to thank Max & Mavic for this fascinating behind-the-scenes insight at le Tour.
