First Pictures: BMC Announce Lighter, More Aero 2021 TeamMachine Range

Celebrating the tenth anniversary of their premium road offering, BMC have launched the 2021 Teammachine range.

Lighter and aero optimised, the downtube features a greater overall surface with reduced edges and improved lateral stiffness. There is a redesigned fork, new integrated cockpit system, D-shaped seat tube and wider bottom bracket. The build will accomodate 30mm tyres and the entire range is only available in disc build.

The top model, the Teammachine SLR01 ONE, is fitted with SRAM Red and listed as weighing just 6.57kg. The range extends through to the Teammachine SLR TWO, which is fitted with Shimano Ultegra Di2, weighs in at 7.69kg.

BMC say they have used in-house software to create thousands of virtual prototypes to identify the best combination of overall shape and layup. The new Teammachine SLR features a wider bottom bracket contact area provided by a revised downtube shape. On the front end, the headtube, fork and steerer have also been refined “for responsiveness and agility”, say BMC.

Weight Matters

The bike features a new D-shape seatpost and optimised carbon layups with minimalistic paint to reduce the overall weight. BMC say they have shaved a total of 160 grams or 9% compared to the previous generation Teammachine while still adding aerodynamics.

Starting from the fork and BMC say they have recalculated shapes, layups and the stealth dropout design to accomplish a lower weight of 345gr while also making the fork stiffer and more aero.

By further developing their Integrated Cockpit System, BMC have reduced the weight of the complete frameset – the frame is listed as weighing in at 820gr (in size M), with a 185gr carbon seatpost.

The new carbon cockpit, a one-piece stem and handlebar element, weighs 305 grams, 30% lighter than the more traditional cockpit and one of the lightest on the market, say the company. This will be available in six lengths (from 90 to 140mm) and with two computer mounts that are thread adjustable in length and fit most computers.

More Aero

Bringing it all together and BMC say the integrated cockpit, new seatpost, combined with newly designed downtube and fork help create a more aero build and “the ultimate all-round race weapon”.

A crucial element to aerodynamic performance, the fork has been totally reshaped, based on the outcome of the ACE+ software and the learnings of the developments of the Timemachine Road platform. It comes with flatter blades truncated at the back and a stealth dropout design with an integrated thru axle nut.
