Australia's Cameron Wurf Signs With Team Ineos

Comments Comments
Team INEOS have announced some surprising but fantastic news - the signing of Australia's Cameron Wurf, the 36yo former WorldTour rider, current Ironman and absolute powerhouse.

Wurf will make his debut for the team at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race on Sunday, and is in fast and powerful form being world-record holder of the bike leg in the Ironman World Championships.

36yo And 'Better & Faster'

Wurf said after experimenting with a number of different approaches to his training over the past few years he has been getting 'better and faster.'

"Since I’ve been competing in Ironman, everyone has started riding a lot faster, but they’re also still running just as fast," he said.
"This move will allow me to stay on the front foot because the bike is my strongest discipline."

The signing with Team Ineos will not hamper Wurf's recent Ironman success. The 36yo powerhouse has come to a unique agreement with the team to mix the WorldTour season with Ironman races, particularly later in the year.

"I’m focused on Kona in October but there’s also an opportunity to be of use to the team when needed before that," he said. "I know lots of people in the team and have trained with many of the riders, and I feel like I fit in with the culture here."

"This is an organisation I’ve dreamt of being part of since it started and it’s amazing to officially pull on the colours. I am really excited and proud to represent Team INEOS."

Coached by Tim Kerrison, Team INEOS’ Head Coach, Wurf is targeting an improvement to his fifth place finish at Kona last year. The Australian is on an upward trajectory in the discipline, having finished 17th in 2017, ninth  in 2018 and fifth in 2019.

From Rowing At Athens Olympics To Team Ineos

Wurf is well known in pro sporting & cycling circles. He competed for Australia in the sport of rowing at the 2004 Olympics before  transitioning full time cycling. He rode at WorldTour level for Fuji Servetto (2009), Liquigas (2011) and Cannondale (2013-14), before taking up Ironman in 2016.

Wurf is a regular training partner with Team Ineos riders, particularly Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Pavel Sivakov. He recently joined Froome on a 309km training ride before hopping off the bike and embarking on a 20+ km run.

This is an organisation I’ve dreamt of being part of since it started and it’s amazing to officially pull on the colours. I am really excited and proud to represent Team INEOS.
